Macedonian identity is part of the identity of every single Greek citizen and we will not negotiate on that

.......Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas said in an interview at "Proto Thema" newspaper.

Also Mr Droutsas points out that official Athens insists on negotiations only on the name and thinks that it is a mistake to add issues connected only to the language and identity in the negotiations as the Macedonian identity belongs to every single Greek citizen.

Greece will require amendments to the Constitution of formeR Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia(FYROM) so as to realize the formula for a common name for international use. This is the position expressed by Droutsas, who as if covered the Greek red line with concrete.

UN mediator Matthew Nimetz shouldn’t have added the rest of the issues in this proposal in 2005 but the worse thing was that the previous Greek government of PM Kostas Karamanlis agreed to discuss them, Droutsas remarked.

I wish Greece would make up it's mind, which side of the fence to side on.

  4. Akritas,

the article referenced by the anonymous comment at 12:12 has absolutely nothing at all to do with the Macedonian identity matter.

For one to have to reference an article dated 1993, to try and make some twisted, bizarre and unclear point (ignoratio elenchi) on the contemporary state of affairs, says more about you than what the incumbent Greek Government has said; in other words it shows more that you lack critical thinking skills, logic! Anonymous @ 12:12 simply fails to execute simple syllogisms. I pity you.

    You forget to state:

    1. That 2.5+ million Greeks who live in Macedonia of Northern Greece self-identify themselves as Macedonians and Greeks.

    2. Those who follow Ouranio Toxo could barely raise more than 1000 votes in the region of Florina in the most recent elections.

So dear Anonymous @ 12:12 lets talk about what is happening in the here and now and not try to use twisted straw men arguments to support the unsupportable; it does not work in the year 2009.
