According to well-placed sources such as the Greek American News Agency in New York, an investigation has been launched against the organization “United Macedonian Diaspora”(UMD), regarding misconduct on finances.
More specifically, the District of Columbia general attorney is investigating, since September 2008, the reports made by an American citizen in relation to UMD’s operations. The president of the organization that represents the interests of the communities of people originating from present day FYROM, Mr. Metto Koloski is accused by statements made to the attorney as working in parallel for the Turkish lobby in Washington through a local consultancy.
Moreover, the UMD is accused that despite the fact that it is a not-for-profit organization, it conducts lobby activities and other activities that are against the local laws and regulations. The situation is still at flux and various sources within the Greek-American community are expecting developments to occur within the first months of 2009.
